23a:Ramp

From Dwarf Fortress Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search
This article is about an older version of DF.

A ramp is a map feature that allows creatures to move between levels.

Ramps are shown with the ▲ symbol (pointing "up"). The space above a ramp is shown as a ▼ and called a "downward ramp", but functions otherwise as open space, serving as an indicator that you can travel downward.

In this version, ramps can only be found in Adventurer mode, appearing in the following locations:

  • Human towns, providing access to the upper floor of a Mead Hall
  • Caves in plains, providing a path downward
  • Pyramid-style ruins, providing a path to the entrance at the top level

Unlike in later versions, ramps can be descended from any direction, while they can only be ascended by walking into an adjacent wall.
