Altars are a furniture item used in temples. In fortress mode, altars can be made from most materials, like wood at a Carpenter's workshop, stone at a Mason's workshop (although using the Stonecrafter labor), glass at a Glass furnace/Magma glass furnace and metal at a Metalsmith's forge/Magma forge. They can be built with b-Alta labeled as Offering Places, although they currently serve no purpose other than increasing a temple's value and decoration, as temples don't require them to function.

In Adventure mode, you can often find dice that can be rolled on altars.
