This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A person in the form of a sponge with arms and legs.

Sponge men, like giant sponges, appear in savage bodies of water. Unlike the sponge and its giant counterpart, it has limbs and is mobile. Its humanoid body makes it actually vulnerable to combat damage. Its sponge body is extremely weak to damage, far easier to cut than flesh. Sponge men do not feel pain, but extended combat can cause them to collapse from exhaustion.

Don't believe everything you read, and if you miss some of the references, don't worry. It was inevitable.

Sponge men are often known for wearing, unusually for an animal, trousers. Said trousers are often, even more unusually, square. They are known for their piercing, demonic laughter, and inability to commandeer a wagon. They are often at odds with squid men, although they are rarely aware of the fact. It is believed that if hypothetical "starfish men" were introduced, a close friendship would form. Sponge men tend to come under the employment of crab men, usually working in kitchens.
