This article is about an older version of DF.

Elves are humanoids dedicated to the ruthless protection of their concept of nature (focused on trees), and have no qualms in ending any life that isn't a tree.[Verify]

Elves will not accept wood, wooden items or any goods decorated with wood. They will also not trade back their own wooden items once you have acquired them. Be careful to not offer them your wooden bins or barrels, but only their contents.

Elves will generally accept items made of stone, metal, bone, shell, silk, leather and plant fiber cloth, meat, fish, totems and even plants.

Their trade caravans come in the spring. Trading wood to elves will result in the elves becoming offended and leaving, repeatedly doing this might anger them and cause them to ambush you. They will trade their own wooden things to you, however. It is theorized that they have 'nature-friendly' means of obtaining the wood. This is pure rubbish. Don't hesitate to fight fire with lava.

Elves seem to always[Verify] bring a considerable number of wood, all kinds of wooden items like barrels and cages, animals, alcohol, plant fiber and its products as well as smaller amounts of weapons and plants.

Elves don't use soap to wash themselves, only water, so they always are a bit dirty, presumably to bring themselves closer to nature. This further reinforces the fact that they really are dirty hippies.
