Eventually all your dwarves will drop down and display sleep on the unit list as well as 'unconscious' on the v-w screen. Preferably they should do this in a bed, not on the floor, also preferably in their own, so they get happy thoughts instead of unhappy ones.
Sleeping also happens in dormitories[Verify],barracks and hospitals.
