Alright, you can post suggestions and your ideas/labyrinths here. If they are good enough, ill add them into the main page, giving full credit to you and also linking to your other content on Magmawiki. --&quot;Finally, youre here!&quot; *Squash* 20:14, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Reformatting?
I read through this earlier and was considering cleaning it up a little bit, altering the diagrams to be a bit more readable and fixed-width, taking the 'troubleshooting' section and transposing it into paragraph form, some grammar, that sort of thing. I'm just giving you a heads up because you appear to want to operate the page yourself - if that's the case you may want to move the content of the page to your user page. --Retro 22:18, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
:If you dont mind, can i keep it in its current format? The chat section down below allows readers to easily pin-point what they want to see. It also allows me to post conversations with my friend, the tutorial creator HydroEmperor, so others get to ask him questions. He says he doesnt like dealing with it himself, so he left the burden in my hands. Typical... --&quot;Finally, youre here!&quot; *Squash* 10:10, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
::That's the thing - if a page is part of the main wiki, it's open for editing by all. If it's on your user page or an offshoot of it, it's your domain. And right now I'd prefer to reformat it a bit to suit the general style of the wiki more and clean it up. There's no problem with moving it to your user page, incidentally; many users including myself keep guides there. I'm just saying in its current state it needs some touching up, and if you don't want any other wiki users (ie. me) to touch it you should probably move it. It's your call, I'm just giving you a heads-up. --Retro 16:12, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

:::Hi, Admin here. I just edited the intro of the article a bit without reading this first - sorry, my bad. (You can "see" the original by hitting the page "history" tab and then comparing my edit with the last - but pls do not revert, just copy/paste the prev. if you want that.)
If you dont mind, can i keep it in its current format?
:::In a word, no. Retro is 100% correct - if it's in the "main space", then it's public domain, community property. What you want to do is move/copy it to your (currently empty) User page, User:Forsamori, or (as Retro properly suggested) start a secondary user page, for example a labyrinth, which some users do for pet projects etc. Nothing wrong with leaving it in both locations, your private one and this public one - but if it's here, it needs links! Right now, it's an orphan, and next to useless. Readya later, either way.--Albedo 16:42, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

:::: Feel free to touch it up, I learn by example. Ill note what changes you make and make sure to apply them to any other wikipages I make. --&quot;Finally, youre here!&quot; *Squash* 18:25, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
:::::If someone does that, great - if not, there are so many inaccuracies and misleading statements that this should just get deleted as inappropriate. If an article is going to exist, it needs to fit the wiki style, and if no one is willing to edit it then it should cease existing as is. Just so you know. Also, moving this to 40d namespace.--Albedo 20:44, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
::::::I'll be happy to when I have free time (not for a day or two, I'd guess). We'll see how well it fits wiki/DF quality criteria then, I suppose. --Retro 22:09, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
:It doesn't need much, but it needs "something" - right now there's a laundry list of things that need improving, and while not all of them need to be fixed, at least something needs to be. Mainly the diagram, chatty voice and terms/accuracy, plus links (which is not a requisite, but a practical concern.) To be honest, I only put the "delete" template there b/c I couldn't find the "needs improving" template. <shrugs> --Albedo 22:38, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
::I gave this a shot, and found while looking over the trap design, defense design, defense guide, and stupid dwarf trick pages that the idea of a labyrinth is loosely incorporated into these pages somewhere or other. The design in this page is a labyrinth design, but it's a rather specific one that would be more appropriate to move to an offshoot of Forsamori's user page ((potentially a labyrinth <-- here as previously suggested)) and then link to it with "here is an example labyrinth design" or something similar on the aforementioned relevant pages. As-is 'labyrinths' don't really need their own page; a paragraph or so in each of the mentioned pages seems sufficient. I think I'm going to go and add a 'see also' thing at the bottom, but moving this and then inserting linked references to it seems the most appropriate action. I'm gonna hold off on attaching those pages to this one until a possible move is done for this page, but it's got a See Also bit now. --Retro 02:29, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

:::::: I'll touch it up tonight. Ill open tabbed browsing and find a well formatted article and try to copy its lay-out as clearly as possible. As youre probably aware, Im new to Magma-wiki, and the whole wiki concept as a whole. Ill see what i can do, as i really dont want this deleted -- Forsamori
:Check out Your first fortress, mega construction and obsidian farming for some good examples of a broad-topic, multi-faceted discussion that avoids being either too personal (I do this, I do that"), too specific re one layout, or assuming the reader knows every term used.--Albedo 00:55, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Some of the "empty" redirects are my fault - it seems some people have been busy (but not busy enough) since I tossed those links up there and checked them. They should all lead somewhere now, but any older article should be found under 40d:________, or via the link in the purplish banner on the CurrentVersion (cv:____) page. If you're having trouble, type in a Search term (or a number of words) and then hit "Search" instead of "Go" - that will give you all articles (not User pages) that include those words. Organs are very large musical instruments.

They are also body parts that serve some primary function other than to move the body or to provide structure to the body (except for the skin; that is also an organ). They cannot be damaged unless the skin and muscle has been broken open or a blunt weapon is used. Damage to organs is often fatal. They can be made of any material.
Eyes
Eyes, while not essential for life, are annoying to lose. The loss of one or both eyes alone will not cause death, but may have other adverse effects. The effects on vision by a loss of both eyes is currently unknown.

Brain
Any damage to the brain will likely result in death.
Lungs
Damage to one or both lungs can be sustained, but will cause difficulty of breath and may result in a loss of speed. Major damage will cause death.
Heart
Major damage to the heart will cause death.
Stomach
It's bad if it's damaged.

Liver
Used for processing alcohol. Dwarven livers are much stronger than human livers and have never been damaged by alcohol. The loss of a liver is a terrible thing for a dwarf. (Actual effects of a lost liver seem to be nil, but correct this if that's wrong)
Do not take on an armoured opponent with your fists; you will lose. Wrestling is no longer very effective and the use of quality weapons is strongly encouraged.

To easily create an underground farm, channel above where you want the farm to be and remove all the down ramps. Designate the area above the farm as a pond and dwarves will begin to fill it (Don't forget to designate a water source and make sure you have buckets). Don't channel from the surface; that will just make it an aboveground farm. Put your farm at least two levels underground and the channel a layer above that. Aboveground farms can be made without muddying the ground, despite the warning.
Don't dig too greedily or too deep without a proper army - expecting a couple rookies to fend off a Giant cave spider (or Hidden_Fun_Stuff) results in much fun. Using fewer rows appears to speed framerate (i.e. setting the minimum grid value of [GRID:80:25] in init.txt). Sadly, that's like playing through a periscope.

An alternate measure is the use of Baughn's Accelerator program. This was written for the old 40d stuff before most of the recent graphics updates. It is generally reported to increase performance in both windows and WINE emulated DF games, though there have been some reports of a blue tinge and instability arising from the accelerator. See the Bay12 thread here.

Please note that this is intended solely as a stopgap until the 40d-graphics merge, so if it doesn't work, don't use it. Baughn has stated that he will not devote time to bugtesting it.

Changing [PARTIAL_PRINT:NO:2] to [PARTIAL_PRINT:YES:2] often dramatically improves performance.

There are several types of jobs associated with this skill:
* Mining removes the section of the wall while preserving both the ceiling and the floor.
* Channeling removes the section of the wall, the floor and places a ramp one level below.
* Ramps replaces the section with a upward ramp, also removing the tile and floor one level above.
* Stairs builds upward (or downward) stairs.

Mining can only be done in pre-existing stone or soil; built wall, stairs or ramp cannot be mined. These must be removed using the 'remove construction' option (q, x)
# Move the cursor to the starting point, then press enter. You should see a green flashing cross symbol indicating that it's in Selection Mode.
# Move the cursor to another point to define the opposite corners of a rectangle, press enter again. A yellow area should now be highlighted, indicating the area to be mined.
To create a channel with no downward ramps, you have to mine out the area underneath the channel first, or manually designate the ramps created for removal afterwards. If you wish for these channels to be completely inaccessible from the outside, channel out the access-point (downward staircase). Rampless channels are an effective substitute for walls against melee enemies that cannot fly, and they can be dug out far faster than a wall can be built. However, channels offer no defense against archers or dragonbreath.

Since the skill of mining also is used in combat, a dwarf with mining enabled that is carrying a pick will increase their mining skill through combat drills.
Hunting
How does hunting work in the new version? I've made a hunter, he picked up a crossbow on his own and I've assigned him ammo in the military screen and still no luck. Enjia2000 15:13, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
<br /><br />
I was able to get a hunter hunting with a quiver and a metal crossbow and bolts. Bone bolts did not seem to work, and after I tried them, he refused to hunt even with the metal bolts. Forbidding and messing with the military-ammunition screen did not help.

It seems like a bug. I've made a bunch of wooden bolts, assigned them to Hunters via Military screen, but it did not help. Turning Hunting off and back again, however, helped.
Note that you will have to trigger Hunting labor every time Hunter runs out of bolts. /DenSpb 18:01, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
