:I personally have yet to find a map with both rain and a hot season. My first fort had a hot season and it lost all its lakes (depth 7) in a single season, while all the rest of my forts so far have had neither hot seasons, nor rain. I can say that "murky pools" will not refill durring winter when things freeze.--Draco18s 10:37, 4 November 2007 (EST)
Magma also appears to evaporate if at depth 1. It leaves no residue. --Doctorlucky 02:51, 23 March 2008 (EDT)
:It's probably handwaved with the magma eating into the rock floor and fusing with it, so any residue is indistinguishable from said floor. --Alfador 12:18, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
Gold nuggets, mined from Native gold, can be smelted directly into gold or combined with an ore of silver to create electrum. Mining it still leaves a valuable gold floor.

It is possible to make Furniture, Crafts or Mechanisms with Gold nuggets if it's enabled in the z-status stone menu, resulting in quite valuable items, good for export early in the game. It's much easier if you lock in the craftsdwarf with the nuggets. Forbidding the other stones doesn't seem to work well.

It is found as veins in soil and in both igneous intrusive and igneous extrusive layers.

Despite the high value of gold, creating electrum with it will result in a net profit if the silver ore used is galena or tetrahedrite. Using silver nuggets or horn silver for the process, however, results in neither a gain nor a loss of overall value.

Smelting
Gold nuggets are used to create two types of metal bars at a smelter:
* Gold bars
* Electrum bars - with silver nuggets, horn silver, galena, or tetrahedrite

A restraint is a chain or rope which is used to restrain a dwarf or other creature. Unlike the cage, the restraint can only hold one creature, and the creature can move within a range of one tile of the restraint in all directions, including up and down if stairs or slopes are in this area. In a previous version it could move up and down through solid floors; it is unknown whether this is currently the case. Also unlike cages, restrained animals can breed.

Restraints can be used to keep a war dog or other animal near areas where you need constant vigilance and defense. Chained dogs placed near the entrance to your fort will catch kobold thieves that can bypass traps and other passive defenses.

If your fortress is above ground, or exists in a location without rock, ropes or bags sewn with images can be a way of recording your fortress' history instead of stone detailing. When built as restraints (or containers, for bags), dwarves can admire them, so they can function as makeshift tapestries.

Restraints are also useful for containing domestic animals when you're running a meat industry.

When destroying/removing restraints, first de-attach any attached animal, otherwise the restraint itself (chain or rope) will remain on the animal's collar (inventory). If that happens, view its inventory and order to Drop it. Make sure you have an accessible Garbage zone and a dwarf with refuse collection enabled.
