Second, we're not talking same-species kiddy snatchers here - these are goblins, and goblins enslave and/or eat dwarf children. Third, why suggest nastiness and smut (as though dwarven kids a la carte wasn't horrid enough!) in a wiki without firm grounds? Fedor 16:07, 12 December 2007 (EST)
:::Nothing strange at all about targetting only children. They're easier to catch, easier for goblins (who are no great size themselves) to carry, can't resist as well, are much more tender when cooked, and can be permanently enslaved more easily. Thing is, the current discussion is related to the article page, which is used in real life by humans and not dwarves. There is also no proof at all that goblin snatchers are pedophile, so not only it is a false entry but, as I said, since it's read by real life humans then the comment can also be considered offensive. == Protection? ==

Ive noticed that there are 3 ways to dispose of goblins.

1. Make huge walls of cage traps to capture them and then proceed to drown them in your flooding chamber. This also prevents blood from getting on the goblins so the elves will trade for their items. (Thieves cannot be moved as they escape from cages as you take them out)

2. Make a choke point at the entrance of your base and fire your ballistas! Usually around 4 should do the trick if they are close together. When they come, call in all your dwarves, and arm your ballistas. Once they enter the choke point, have them fire at will and they will be disposed of.

3. Of course you can always set up zounds of stone-fall traps all over your map.

4. armies work to start, but goblin champions are quite excellent at striking down your armies through fortifications and platemail.

Become friends with your fellow Goblin!
It might be nice if goblin snatchers had their own page so there was someplace relevant to put this other than a talk page...

-If a Goblin Snatcher successfully makes it off the map with a child, you can find the exact square the child was snatched from by zooming to the child from the Relationship screen of a dwarf still present on the map (say, the parent). Basically, despite being removed from the (U)nit list, they can still be 'found' via the relationship list because they still retain friends/family/etc...

-Snatched children receive a happy thought from being grabbed, which you can see if you go to (v)iew from the relationship screen: "(S)he is happy to be free."

:I bet that thought is supposed to be for when you free them from the goblins, but what if it isn't? A dwarf's life is hard, usually spent serving nobles, and the slightest misstep gets you hammerized. Are we really the good guys? Rolan7 14:03, 27 February 2009 (EST)
::I would guess that they're friendly goblins. Depending on how worldgen goes, it's possible (though uncommon) for a dwarven civilization to be on good terms with a goblin civilization. When that happens and you choose to be a member of that dwarven civ upon embark, moving in next to goblins is no different than moving in next to humans or elves usually is. == Do HFS attack goblins? ==

I'd like to know if Hidden Fun Stuff will attack goblins (like if I released them from a cage into the path of a stampeding HFS)... this would seem strange but is there anywhere to verify whether it is true or not?--Jpwrunyan 14:34, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Do gobs really attack any fortress
It says in the main page that goblins will siege any sufficiently populous or wealthy fortress. Is this true even if the fortress does not have contact with a goblin civ? Further, what about thieves and ambushes? Are some or all of those attacks absent without civ contact? --Thrillho 16:20, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Has anybody else noticed, in the latest version (40d) that wrestlers are levelling up much quicker? To put this into perspective: in my current fortress I have 36 champions at the end of year 4. Each and every one of them got from recruit to champion in less than two seasons. And no matter what weapon I equip them with, their experience in that weapon never, ever meets or exceeds that gained in wrestling. Obviously, I shouldn't complain, but it's still slightly vexing, as non-wrestling military elites are considered desirable. If only because grey is such a boring colour. Aosher 18:39, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

:Them getting legendary so quick has been reported on the forums a few times, so it's a relatively well-known bug. As for weapons, do you mean elite wrestlers don't turn into something else when another weapon gets high enough? --LegacyCWAL 19:26, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
::Oh, good. I searched the Known Bugs list and couldn't find anything, but wanted to be sure before making a forum post. What I meant about the weapon was: say I have just made a new recruit. That recruit has 0XP in both wrestling and whatever weapon I assign them to. The recruit goes off and spars; we know that sparring trains both the weapon skill in question and wrestling, as well as armour user, shield user etc. While sparring with a weapon, the recruit should gain XP in the weapon faster than wrestling, but he doesn't; in every case that I've tried, the dwarf has become a wrestler, then an elite wrestler, then a champion, still gaining XP as a weapon user but never having the XP in that weapon meet or exceed the XP he has in wrestling. It seems that it's just a function of wrestling XP being gained abnormally quickly. Aosher 08:48, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
:::I'm running 40d and I've only had this happen with 1 out of about 20 soldiers (and 1 other whose skill in wrestling was even close to his weapon skill). Now mind you, for about half of my soldiers I assigned them weapons that match their preferences, so that might be a factor, but there are plenty of soldier of "Talented ___dwarf/Competent Wrestler caliber (with no preferences for weapon ____).Nemokara 18:35, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
:I was seeing this same effect of all dwarves turning into wrestlers even when given other weapons, and I might know why: I had a wrestler who would spar with hammerdwarves, and they did a lot of wrestling (probably because once grappled the hammerdwarf would execute wrestling moves as well?), and in this process my hammerdwarf grabbed a quiver, so even when he was sparring with my axdwarf, he was wrestling (the usual stuff in his hands problem mentioned on this page), and thus hammer vs. axe was actually a wrestling match. soon a couple of people had stuff in their hands, and even when I gave the wrestler a weapon and had *nobody* set to wrestling, everybody was still wrestling. When I went through and emptied their hands of stuff they'd ripped off, weapons advanced much more quickly and wrestling much more slowly, and they turned into hammerdwarves, etc. Does that seem right? --Thrillho 19:26, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
