Skills don't increase in terms of levels, but in terms of points.  If you do some training in adventure mode and take a gander at your personal status, you'll note that each skill level takes a certain number of points in the hundreds.  It's possible it's stored cumulatively (i.e., 635 points in shield user on the back end would be displayed as 135 points into &amp;quot;Novice Shield User&amp;quot; on the front end) although I haven't confirmed that; if so, then Toady would probably consider it possible (however unlikely) for someone to increase a single skill by more than 65,535 points total, and a 4-byte integer is the next larger power of 2 bytes.&lt;br /&gt;
