Bituminous coal, once processed into Template:L at a Template:L, is used to Template:L smelters and Template:Ls, and to make Template:L and Template:L.

It can only be found past the Template:L, and can sometimes be hard to find. Template:L can be used as a substitute, although this uses up your supply of Template:L. On maps where trees are scarce, finding coal is critical for Template:Ling.

Using fuel to create fuel (smelting coal at an ordinary Template:L) is highly inefficient. Template:Ls do not require fuel, which will allow you to reserve all your coke for the production of Template:L. Creating two steel Template:Ls at an ordinary smelter consumes five units of coke/charcoal, but only two coke/charcoal at a magma smelter.

Bituminous coal is not the same as Template:L, though it is directly related.
