This article is about an older version of DF.

Tarn Adams assigns a version number for every Dwarf Fortress release . Recent version numbers contain three numeber sections defining the release information. The older format contain four.

Newer short form:

Version numbers are composed of three numbers. Each component has its own meaning:

  1. The first number is how many hundreds of core components have been completed.
  2. The second number is the total number of core components completed.
  3. The third number is increased by one for each bug-fix release of a version.

Example

v0.31.10, the 10th bugfix release of the version of Dwarf Fortress with 31 core components complete.

0 . 31 . 10
Fewer than 100 core components complete
31 core components completed
8th bug-fix release

Older long form:

Version numbers were composed of four numbers and a letter, and possibly another number after the letter. Each component had its own meaning:

  1. The first number was how many hundreds of core components had been completed.
  2. The second number was the total number of core components completed.
  3. The third number was the total number of required1 components completed.
  4. The fourth number was the total number of bloat1 components completed.
  5. The adjacent letter was increased by one alphabetically for each bug-fix release of a version.
  6. The number after the letter referred to openGL optimizations. These reflected no changes to the gameplay, only to top-level interface and improved performance on newer video cards.
