I recently walled in a group of 3 merchants in my Trade Depot.  After a while (didn't get time exactly) 2 of them went insane.  An interesting thing is that their animals (a donkey and a horse) also went insane.  The horse was Berserk, so he was killed almost instantly by the one sane merchant.  The other 3 are still babbling/trying to kill themselves.

Does a Dwarf who goes Berserk get boosts in combat skills? Because one of my craftswdarves once went insane and killed seven others before he was finally stopped; he had no weapons, armor(Except for the standard clothes) or any combat skills. Or was it just bad luck?

I've just examined the code that determines the type of insanity that gets chosen, and as far as I can tell it is 100% random - I see what appears to be a call to generate a random number between 0 and 2 (inclusive) and a switch() statement on the result to determine whether the dwarf goes melancholy, insane, or berserk. --[[User:Quietust|Quietust]] 00:58, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Fine.[edit]

I was just moving information from 40d, I know I should have confirmed most of it, and I thought most of it is still in the new version, but I KNOW that Stark raving mad is still there, if you want to start from scrach, then fine. But don't feel like editing the page again, so if you want to add that Stark raving mad still exists then go ahead. --Tarran 02:28, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

  • I just finished adding back all the relevant information from the older page, and to my knowledge it's all verified. D for Dwarf segment encompasses the old "Dealing with Insanity" section. --SethCreiyd 21:58, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
  • I can confirm that all 3 modes of insanity exist. At the same time :/--UmbrageOfSnow 18:10, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Merchants went insane[edit]

Here's some stuff that may interest you wikiers.

Insomnia[edit]

Two of my wounded guards went insane(melancholy) after being unable to sleep/rest for some months (perhaps because of my barrack design). Is this normal? unsigned comment by 91.10.211.81

Yes - inability to sleep will result in insanity. --Quietust 16:42, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Berserk Rage Boosts?[edit]

Does a Dwarf who goes Berserk get boosts in combat skills? Because one of my craftswdarves once went insane and killed seven others before he was finally stopped; he had no weapons, armor(Except for the standard clothes) or any combat skills. Or was it just bad luck?

Chances[edit]

I've just examined the code that determines the type of insanity that gets chosen, and as far as I can tell it is 100% random - I see what appears to be a call to generate a random number between 0 and 2 (inclusive) and a switch() statement on the result to determine whether the dwarf goes melancholy, insane, or berserk. --Quietust 00:58, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
