Is Rope reed a tree?
+
taken from
I just wonder, is rope reed considered a tree now? Because I've just tryed to offer some rope reed goods to elves and they just quit on me!

:Did your dwarves chop it down? Then it's not a tree.  Did you offer it to them in wooden bin? What was their mood when you made the offer? What did they say when they left? What sort of "goods"? --Albedo 12:39, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

::Also, by any chance were your rope reed goods decorated with wood or perhaps clear/crystal glass? --Quietust 14:07, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Space filler
So, since there's no discussion on this page, I'll space-fill with something I was thinking about last night.

Let's say we embark with nothing but dwarves and the wagon.

* Use Plant Gathering to find a rope reed plant.

* Use Carpentry to disassemble the wagon (3 wood).

* Use 1 wood and Plant Processing to build a farmer's workshop.

* Use farmer's workshop to turn rope reed plant into rope reed thread.

* Disassemble the farmer's workshop.

* Use 1 wood and Clothesmaking to build a clothier's shop.

* Use the clothier's shop to turn the rope reed thread into a rope reed bag.

* Disassemble the clothier's shop.

* Use 1 wood and Wood Burning to build a wood furnace.

* Use 1 wood at the wood furnace to produce 1 charcoal.

* Disassemble wood furnace.

* Use 1 wood and Glassmaking to build a glass furnace.

* Zone a sand collection area.

* Use the glass furnace to task sand to be collected in the rope reed bag.

* Use the glass furnace with 1 charcoal and 1 rope reed sand bag ...

REJOICE, FOR YOU HAVE PRODUCED 1 PIECE OF GREEN GLASS!

I'm reasonably certain wood cannot be used to build any furnace building.  They require fire-safe materials.  Wood is not.  --Squirrelloid 18:55, 9 March 2009 (EDT)

:Yeah, I missed that part.  Darn.  That did sound too good to be true. --FJH 20:46, 9 March 2009 (EST)

::Ash is fire-proof, so before you disassemble the wood furnace, make some ash with one log. I think it would still work.--Kwieland 16:35, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

:::Chicken-and-egg problem.  You can't make the ash in the first place, as you can't make a wood furnace out of wood.<br/>&mdash;0x517A5D 19:55, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

rare
So why is rope reed rare? Is it smth in the raws or just experience? --Höhlenschreck 21:37, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
