When appointed, the sheriff, who was a woodcutter, immediately began laying about him with an axe, killing most of my key dwarves. Their crimes? Export violation. Would having a jail have solved this? In any case, I'm promoting a weaponless, non-combat dwarf next time. --Zombiejustice 11:52, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

::Jails however are annoying (not to mention somewhat broken... either you use a cage and have the dwarf starve to death, or make a chain and have all other kinds of fun, like the chained dwarf having a baby RIGHT outside the range of the chain and spam you with baby pickup messages all day). Easier to appoint a sheriff/captain and give him a wooden training weapon and watch him lightly tap evildoers, making everyone happy. Sergius 16:09, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

My old Sheriff was kicked out of this post when I reached 50 dwarves. Now he doesn't show up in the replace screen. A bug, I'd assume?

::It would seem that you can't be Captain of the Guard and Militia Commander at the same time (at least in my fort); nevermind. Aussiemon 06:32, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Captain of the Guard a murderer?
My newly appointed Captain of the Guard (selected for her inability to use weapons and her overall weak frame) took her first job serious and chopped some poor mandate violator's head off (I forgot to check if she had any weapons and steel swords are sharp, apparently). It was only afterwards that I built a jail and appointed some less-than-mediocre soldiers as Fortress Guard. The Captain of the Guard's first officer took the opportunity and put his superior in the cage for murder - the very same slaying of the evil mandate violator. Is this a bug or a feature? --138.246.2.47 09:03, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
