VengefulDonut's method for getting through an N level aquifer (incomplete)[edit]

0[edit]

Prerequisites:

  1. You will need to know how a reynard tower works.
  2. You will need to know how to generate and hook up power.
  3. You will need materials for constructing and hooking up power.
  4. You will need enough materials to construct 5 screw pumps. If N is more than 5, you will need materials for N screw pumps.
  5. You will need wall-building materials.

1[edit]

Reach the aquifer level. I will refer to the level above the aquifer as level 0. I'm going to increase the numbers with depth. Level 1 is the first aquifer level.

2[edit]

Dig an array of up/down staircases on level 1. This guide will refer to 7x7 because I prefer 7x7. This can be modified for different sizes.

3[edit]

Build floors to place a screw pump.

Channel out the pump intake tile.

  • (fig 1)

4[edit]

Construct a screw pump on the floor tile. Orientation isn't important.

  • (fig 2)

5[edit]

While a dwarf is operating the pump, dig out an up/down staircase on level 2 directly below the channel.

  • (fig 3)

6[edit]

The water from level 1 being drained into level 2 will allow you to dig out the same array of up/down staircases as on level 1.

Side note: using this technique, you can now expand levels 1 and 2 to any degree you want. You could even build your fortress inside the aquifer.

  • (fig 4)

7[edit]

Wall off level 1 from the aquifer and deconstruct the screw pump.

  • (fig 5)

8[edit]

Repeat steps 3-7 until you reach the last layer of aquifer (level N). Only dig a 5x5 staircase on level N.

The last layer of aquifer can be identified by looking at the type of stone on the next layer. It is revealed when you dig the first staircase.

9[edit]

Build a row of floors along the center of level N-1

  • (fig 6)

10[edit]

Set up a power source for the screw pumps that attaches directly above the center of level N-1.

11[edit]

If you set up the input correctly, you should be able to build screw pumps on the floors. Orient them all in the same direction and then channel out the intakes.
