I embarked on a new map after retiring my previous fortress. Once migrants started showing up, a lot of them were previous inhabitants of my old fort - and some of these were wearing crafts. I saw migrants wearing rings, bracelets, earrings, amulets, and crowns, all in the appropriate places ("in right ear" for an earring, etc.).
