in-game behaviour

To be tested: on what conditions does water passing through bars creates mist, is it possible to shoot through bars? Noctis 06:59, 4 November 2007 (EST)

I think I read Toady saying that there was no functional difference between grates and bars, (horizontal or vertical) at the moment, so if you can shoot through grates, you can shoot through bars.

Move suggested

This page violates N, and should be swapped with bar --LegacyCWAL 13:05, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

"The exceptions are terms that are always plural and proper nouns." Bars (construction) are always plural in the game, unless you speak about metal bars. --Aykavil 13:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
In which case bar should redirect to metal instead of here. --LegacyCWAL 13:52, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I would agree with that. However, as things are, the page Bars indicates the page Metal if one thought of metal bar. I can't think of a simple way to indicate the page Bars on the Metal one in case one typed bar that doesn't sound silly for all the other users who just type metal.--Aykavil 20:04, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Comparison with floor grates

The wiki claims they are identical in function, but from here it seems there is one major difference: the passage of light. Grates when used as floors do not allow light passage, where bars in the same situation do. Haven't had a chance to test, can someone confirm that? --Admiral Urist 15:31, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Just tested in-game, and both floor grates and floor bars cause the tiles below them to become "Inside" (it's not possible to make tiles "Dark" once they've been exposed to light). --Quietust 19:51, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
