"Forgotten"? Perhaps this is because he was going to demand something related to the economy, which I have deactivated? -- Raumkraut 22:33, 6 April 2008 (EDT)

: In response to my own question comes a short thread on the bay12 forums which, from Toady's responses, seems to imply this is a bug: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=6852.msg80978#msg80978 -- Raumkraut 20:48, 11 April 2008 (EDT)

Item in <room name> demands are bugs. There are several threads in the forum. The cause - noble wants something, that cannot be done, such as stone bed or potash table.--Dorten 23:12, 10 April 2008 (EDT)

:Yeh I found this fact in the forums too. Oddly enough the guy making the demand hasn't progressed from red to upset about it failing. I'm not sure I've waited long enough but its felt like ages. Yvain 01:53, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

::My hammerer had a bugged demand which hung around in the red stage for several years of game-time before (IIRC) he eventually forgot about it. -- Raumkraut 02:45, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Why do the nobles insist on something being done that they know that cannot be done? I have no sand anywhere in my map and the want glass items.

Please tell me why!--CrazyMcfobo 09:36, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

:You think that's bad, wait till you hear the demand i just received;

:"bed in Tomb". Seriously, why would you want a bed in a tomb? that's just sick! --AlexFili 08:18, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

::I had a similar experience with a fey mood looking for a glass furnace.  I didn't have any sand (so I thought) so eventually he went and jumped in the lava.  I later found out that I did have sand - a bug (000729)where trees cut down turn into sand.--Kwieland 09:51, 17 February 2009 (EST)

This is evidence that something is bugged in the raws or internal to the program. Requests for a large , traders bringing ( meat), and  item in dining room are a result of a demand that tries to fetch a nonexistent matgloss. The material he wants the bed made of is undefined and has no name, so it is replaced with a null character. Related is when something bugs in the raws and you CAN find the material, and you have a noble who can now demand production of bronze colossus leather trousers (bronze greaves don't satisfy him). I've taken to completely ignoring demands and mandates and simply making all productive members of society inaccessible to the limbless members of the justice system. : Yay, i've finally managed to screenshot such a moronic noble: <br /> Insecticide 18:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Not like mandates
:It seems to me that Demands are more like temporary room qualifications than mandates. My consort is demanding a clear glass window in bedroom. I can't produce it, so it hit the red state. She's 'angered at the state of demands' but there's no justice issues. No one is getting punished, but she's upset it isn't fulfilled and gets more so the longer it isn't. == Who can make them? ==

Thus far, across 2 fortresses, I have seen demands from my King, Queen Consort, Duke, Duchess Consort, Dungeon Master, Tax Collector, and Hammerer. Do assigned/elected nobles (manager, record keeper, broker, mayor, captain of the guard) ever make demands? What about the philosopher? --Quietust 03:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

:I have a demand from my Mayor in my 40d13 gamelog. Cheepicus 06:22, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

::And, just now, the Mayor in my new fort has demanded an Electrum statue in his office. He's not going to get one, of course. --Quietust 02:29, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
