Carpenter's workshops can be constructed from the {{K|b}}uild menu with {{k|b|w}}, the center tile of the workshop will be placed at the cursor with {{k|Enter}}, then {{k|s|w}} which requires one log to be available in the camp.{{version|0.43.01}} Any items under any tiles of the workshop will disappear, although any logs there will somehow still be available for building tasks, but not for crafting. Existing carpenter's workshops in fortresses can also be used.

As of version 43.01, carpenter's workshops can be constructed using the {{K|b}}uild menu. While standing anywhere within its 3x3 space press {{K|x}} to access the relevant options in the crafting menu. Each item consumes one log which can be either in your {{K|i}}nventory or lying on the ground in the center tile of the 3x3 work space. An (in-hand) equipped sharp item such as a sharp stone or stone axe is required. Note that crafting a piece of furniture seems instantaneous but placing it from within the {{K|b}}uild menu will consume one hour of time working (excepting chests, see below.) The following items can be made this way:

To then use the workshop, press {{K|x}} while standing anywhere within its 3x3 space and select Carpentry from the {{k|c}}reate menu. Each item consumes one log which must be either in your hands or lying on the ground in the same tile as you. A sharp item such as a sharp stone or stone axe is required, likewise in-hand or on the ground. Items in containers will not work, so either {{k|r}}emove or {{k|d}}rop them. The following items can be made this way:

Of these items, chests are the only furniture that cannot be placed using the build menu and thus have the benefit of avoiding the one hour work timer when usually placing furniture. You can instead place them at your feet by dropping via the {{K|d}}rop menu. Note that while crafting is instantaneous, placing it from within the {{K|b}}uild menu will consume one hour of working. Unfortunately, splints are not usable in adventure mode.
