Hey, I'm an admin from the Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup wiki. Last year we were getting hammered with nearly a hundred spam accounts and posts a day, and eventually we just turned off account registration to the public entirely. Now, to get an account, they simply send the admins an email and we make the account for 'em. It's much less work than constantly deleting spam and blocking accounts, and we haven't seen a single instance of the stuff since. You could even remove the obnoxious CAPTCHA images entirely.
