There are four seasons; Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The passing of all four makes a year. Each new fortress starts in the 1st felsite of Early-Spring. Each season is is indicated as Early, Mid or Late... creating 12 combinations which roughly match to the months of our year. To find out which season you are in, press z to access the Status screen for your fort and the date, year and season will be displayed in the top right corner.

Farming
With the changing seasons come different weather conditions, depending on your climate. A typical mountain side fort will have snow in spring and winter, with warm summers and colourful autumns. The seasons correspond to growing seasons from the Farm menu which dictate what can be grown when during the year.

During Winter muddy tiles in subterranean parts of your fort will dry out making them useless for farming. Although the farm construction may still exist, come spring, you may find it necessary to re-irrigate your farms and rebuild them.

*TODO: Confirm/reject, do farms need rebuilding in order to grow plants in the second year?
