I'm bloody ecstatic over the new water mechanics. I've already dedicated my first fortress to learning the mechanics, and so far I've managed to flood about three different shafts. The Z-axis mechanic is wonderful, since it means that I can actually give up on a flooded shaft but just dig out another one and try out another water mechanic.

I love the new alloys. Always liked using alloys, and it looks like they'll be even more valuable now that there's a premium on fuel for most fortresses.

Hoping Toady manages to fix the various pathfinding glitches that seem to crop up. Stories of goblin sieges waiting at the edge of the map have me worried.

Playing with some water mechanics. Seems like streams and the like don't run dry, bringing about the ol' permaflood if you get screwed up. Maybe you could pump the water out real fast-like, but that'd be hard.

Garbage pits are nice, to the point that some people refer to a couple uses as an exploit. Here's hoping Toady doesn't close it off-it's wonderful for clearing areas and managing stone, among other things.

Played with hatches. It appears you can use hatches or grates to make pits. More than likely you can also put pointy bits on the bottom part of the pit to make spike pits.

The possibilities of Z-axis digging are endless. I'm like a giggly gremlin endlessly thinking up new ways of killing things. Welp, time to abandon this fortress and come up with a new batch of guinea-I mean brave settlers.

Poor bastards.

Note: If retracting bridges do work for pit traps, it looks like they may be preferable to floor hatches, since a hatch requires a hatch AND two mechanisms. Especially since pits are too complex for individual corridors, unless you're just dropping things into inescapable holes. You could always just drop things five levels with a massive pit-equipped entryway, drop them several levels through a straight shaft, and go scrape their loot off the bottom.
