::T - you're remembering correctly.  However, it's been pointed out that there are, iirc, 3 "default" sets - the simple ascii, the alternate tile set that is included (and must be loaded), and... maybe MayDay's, which is absurdly common?  But yes - try to use one of those, not a highly stylized version.  (It's in the community posting guidelines here: [[Dwarf_Fortress_Wiki:Community_Portal#I]]). And welcome back! <br />
