In the current version the hunter will not be equipped with ammo for his crossbow by default, so before you can use your hunters, access the military screen by pressing {{k|m}}, then the ammunition screen by pressing {{k|f}}. Select hunters, and any bolt as their loadout. After this is done, your {{L|Arsenal Dwarf}} needs to make some changes to the paperwork before your hunters can pick up their ammo, so make sure he isn't busy with another job, like record keeping, because your hunters will not pick up their ammo without his approval.
