Two dwarfs can get married if they are of the opposite gender. Instantly after marriage those dwarfs usually make a wedding party. After getting married those 2 dwarfs can produce babies.<br />It appears that in DF2010, marriages are sometimes held off until springtime; I had two marriages on the first day of my fortress' second spring, and none before that point.
