:It doesn't have just one picture of itself on it... it has itself carved on it 73 times! Almost all of these carving are in limestone, too. It could very well be fractal. --Smartmo 15:24, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

:: It's at the bottom of the article. I'm not against adding a show/hide button, but I don't think it's at all important. --Eagle0600 10:37, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

My megaconstruction project is on hold at the moment as I have a dwarf displaying this infinite collection tendency (went moody during a siege and claimed the outdoor craftshop); he's a stonecrafter and the first item collected was rock salt (the most plentiful stone I have), although he collected--without my doing anything--iron ore (limonite, tetrahedrite) and has added it to the workshop, I also mined out some platinum, which he has also collected. Current estimated value of the artifact in progress is over 800,000☼ as it is primarily constructed of iron ores (value 24☼) and he has collected over 250 stones. Currently 7077☼ worth of raw materials have been collected. --173.49.21.216

:Addendum, as I accidentally crashed DF. I had a weaponsmith go fey on reload and forced him to collect every metal bar I could produce with my meager coal mines. I did not end up counting how many items went into the creation of the Iron Spear Olinsacat "Tongsdot," but it was worth a whopping 20,653,200☼ (mostly iron bars, plenty of gold, a few platinum, copper, and silver). I have also not excessively trawled its description, but it does contain references to itself, references to an artifact from a prior fort in the same location, squares, at least one berzerk dwarf, at least one dwarf falling off my megaconstruction, and various other depictions. (Oh yeah, I have a login...) --Draco18s 00:51, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

There needs to be a page full of epic artifacts like this spear and planepacked. this way anyone with an epic artifact can post it.

I did a little research, and found some notes on how to better use the exploit. Please consider this a spoiler if you don't want to itch all over wanting to do it. Teehee.
Since you need to have the outdoors forbidden to dwarves, I can confirm that if you hit the forbid button during the pause when you get the message about it ("Urist McMoody has become possessed!") then the exploit will occur. I got a guy right now gathering up all my wood. I'd rather he take my obsidian because I have more of it, but whatever.
That brings me to my next point: if you have him gathering stuff, and unforbid the outdoors so that he can cross an item off, then it cannot be restarted. Therefore, it only seems to work on the first item in the list, for good or ill.
Therefore, my obsidian goes to waste for now, but I do get a 44-wood and 1-bone arti. --Waladil 23:46, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

:Later note: It's worth 55,200, and it has 5 references to itself in its 44 wooden decorations. Must... resist... offering... to... elves...
Actually, I might be in the running for best weight/value ratio, since it only weighs 1. Can anyone beat a 55,200:1 ratio? --Waladil 23:57, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

:: (Waladil is now holding a full discussion by himself. You may try to converse with him, but chances are slim that he'll notice you. Allow him to continue blathering, it's normal.) Yeah? well, now I'm working on a super-obsidian super...thing... I've got over 3k obsidian sitting around and a self-sufficient fortress. I'm in it for the long haul! --Waladil 17:17, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Is it still possible to make a Planepacked now? Has the gltich been fixed? Can I ask this in a more dramatic fashion?

I think if you set burrows to exclude the workshop, it'd work, but I dunno. --97.121.181.207 00:48, 9 June 2010 (UTC) (forgot siggy when put in at first)

: Yep. Burrowing works. Just set the burrow to include NOT the workshop (whatever it is) and then add the moody dwarf. --97.121.181.207 00:48, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

:It would appear that it does not, unfortunately. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=82053.0

Epiphany
I was sitting around the other day, and suddenly, I had this amazing realization. Planepacked is the Dwarf Fortress equivalent of Homestuck. It's long, absurdly complicated, incorporates tons of seemingly random elements, seems almost completely incomprehensible much of the time, has numerous references to itself, and was created by someone under the influence of a Strange Mood, most likely due to a strange malfunction in the way reality works. Plus, describing it in it's entirety basically requires reading the whole thing.

:There are several pages of description text in the article (possibly hidden by a collapsed form). Is that description insufficient?--Loci (talk) 00:41, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
