We have embarked upon hell itself.  I am not entirely sure how we did it, but the wagon is intact and muskoxen and still alive.  We have crossed a section of ocean and landed to found ...

=== Day 1 ===
As I stand upon our wagon and stare off into the distance, I can see that the ocean is nearly bottomless; 36 elves could stand on each others shoulders and all would drown.  The king has demanded us to build a glass and steel fortress in the water; a living monument to dwarven ingenuity.  I see neither the volcano nor the sand that the surveyors promised; I doubt they were wrong about the aquifer. Meanwhile, since the oxen collapsed upon reaching the shore, our wagon sits on the edge of the ocean itself.  One strong wave and our supplies will be lost.  Time to pull beards and take names.

As I stand upon our wagon and stare off into the distance, I can see that the ocean is nearly bottomless; 36 levels at its deepest.  The king has demanded us to build a glass and steel fortress in the water; a living monument to dwarven ingenuity.  If the surveyors hadn't promised a volcano, I would have never signed on.  Charts be damned.  If there is a volcano here it is extinct.  Our only hope is to forge some picks and hope we can break though the aquifer to find the magma we need to construct our furnaces.  Looks like we'll be living topside like the hippies for a while.

* Power - No wind.  I've rigged a waterwheel+screwpump to run in the ocean for a POC.  It hasn't stopped once I primed it with a manual pump.  So I've got power - now I need screwpump parts.

* Wildlife - Elephants and warthogs about; I have captured an undwarvenly large number of them in cage traps.

* Habitat - dug some rooms into the soil; one farm plot started.

* Rock - quarry started, even found some gold and gems

* Magma - pipe has been located

* Sand - located a layer above magma pipe

* Trade - went well I exported food that I cooked as I traded to buy lots of stuff to melt.

* Imigrants - 7 starting; a woodcutter turned clothier (bags and ropes), a stoneworker turned engraver, a mason, an armorer turned ???, a woodcarver turned miner, a bonecarver, a peasant turned glassmaker

Need to get magma glass furnace, magma kiln, magma smelter and magma forge

Get bags for sand to start making clear glass blocks

Melt down any steel to make bars for construction... may skip the steel part.
