The elves showed up again today. Short of closing the doors on them, I saw a cage that caught my eye - inside was a giant desert scorpion. This immediately piqued my interest and we traded our surplus gems to them in exchange for the chitin-clad monstrosity. ''I wonder if it will be useful?''

'''Mesthos Orsharoslan''' has been actingly withdrawn lately. Now we know why. When we slaughtered a horse for meat, he pushed through the haulers and rushed to grab at the bones before anyone else could get to them. He had, without anyone noticing, also acquired quite a collection of odd items from the stockpiles. After frantically working day and night in a craftdwarves workshop, he energed and proclaimed that he had completed '''Darudtathur''', "Climatescribes", the phyllite toy axe. It is encircled with bands of prase, chicken leather and horse bone. This object is adorned with hanging rings of llama wool and menaces with spikes of iron. On the item is an image of Morul Helmsskinned the dwarf and dwarves in phyllite. Morul Helmsskinned is surrounded by the dwarves. The artwork relates to the ascension of the dwarf Morul Helmsskinned to the position of queen of The Hammer of Jungles in 113. On the item is an image of alders in iron. On the item is an image of a square in horse bone. Despite such an odd mix off components, the artifact is a wonder to behold. Mesthos has gone from being a passable adamantine strand extractor (and very little other use) to a whiz with the chisel - his proficiency in engravings makes him ''a joy to see him produce art.''

A human caravan has been spotted approaching from the north west. This will provide some small distraction from the preparation of a second attacking point for Oda, the last threatening Forgotten Beast

''9th Sandstone, 192''.

Oda has been slain. The militia, fully equipped in adamantine, bravely tackled the beast head on, as it never strayed close enough to the vantage points for the Marksdwarves to shoot at it. The comined efforts of three swordswarves, 2 macedwarves and 2 hammerdwarves, backed up by 5 marksdwarves, felled the beast with only light bruises to show for the trouble, Luckily the poisonous stinger was disabled by a lucky swipe from a razor sharp adamantine sword in the beginning stages of the fight, and the rest was a matter of time. Bravo to the heroic dwarves of the militia! In other news, '''Lolor Evostled''' pushed the metallurgists out of the magma forge and worked busily - grabbing at gems and adamantine wafers with a gleam in his eye. He emerged later carrying '''Rulnidost''', "The Submerged Ferocity", the adamantine left gauntlet. This amazing hand guard is encrusted with blue garnet and encircled with bands of adamantine. Fully one quarter of our armor wealth is represented by this wondrous armour piece, and ''given the amount of adamantine we are using, that is a significant achievement!''

The outpost liaison Likot Laravuz and a caravan from Nil Egath arrived today. We traded our excess clay and a few baubles for their stock of booze. We have little need for the supplies from the Mountainhome. This is not arrogance, but simple fact. When he left, the liaison mentioned that Meshring had again grown in esteem, and ''declared us a duchy!''

''4th Opal, 192''.

The peasant Lor Lolumkadol and the fisherdwarf Minkot Ensebsibrek have married! Congratulations! They have decided to forgo any formal celebrations. Almost as if to honour the occasion, the guards from the departing caravan slew a pair of wolves - ''we dine well tonight!''

''18th Obsidian, 192 - besieged!''

A vile force of darkness has arrived! Eighteen filthy goblin scum, in two loose squads, are laying siege to Meshring. Only one child is at risk, being past the inner defensive bridge. The marauders are wily, with both squads riding jabberers and elk birds, while herding gigantic, threatening forms. These are giant olms, and ''we shall need our wits about us to survive the assault.''
