Bricks in Masterwork Dwarf Fortress are similar in use to blocks in vanilla DF. However, they can be produced in any color (including black), regardless of the color of the original material. They are extremely useful for megaprojects.
Bricks come in two varieties: Normal bricks and fine bricks. Normal bricks can be produced in groups of four from one stone, while ornamental bricks are produced in groups of two. Ornamental bricks are worth five times as much, so they are better suited for increasing fortress value.
