+ | :I think moving the "Container" article to "Box" sounds good. Should help people recognize "Box" in the stockpile settings when searching for "Coffer" or "Chest". [[User:Jecowa|Jecowa]] ([[User talk:Jecowa|talk]]) 00:43, 15 February 2025 (UTC) |

Unusual material boxes[edit]
Boxes have fascinating matgloss logic, with the metal chest being seemingly default.
Inorganic materials make coffers, with the stone sprites.
Organic materials make chests (not bags anymore). Creature-based chests look like metal, while plant-based chests look like wood.
Most hardcoded materials produce chests that look like metal - this is consistent with other items of that material. Amber and coral look like glass (consistent with other items), but are called chest instead of box.

Moving "container" article[edit]
(Previously proposed at DF2014 Talk:Storage, due to redirect weirdness)
The "Container" article is used only for the item type "BOX" (chests). It's not the precise game term for building_boxst
since v50. b
f
h is called "Chest", so the page about just chests should be called either "chests" (the casual term, most instances of the object are called this) or "box" (the consistent internal term, which shows up when failing to build a chest). "Container" should link to the general "storage" article - I've changed all relevant articles to link to Storage instead. For the DF2014 pages, Container should be a disambiguation page as it has different definitions across wiki versions.
Because Box has edit history (even from before I added the deletion template), it cannot be automatically overriden with the Move command.
