Ice cannot be used to craft[edit]
That certainly seems to be the case. You get the "No non-economic hard stone available" if you try to craft stone and nothing but ice is available. Same for masons trying to make doors, etc. Ice isn't listed as an economic stone, so you can't change that setting in the status screen either. Accordingly I'm removing the 'verify' tag. - I believe the reason you can't use it is because ice isn't considered hard, not that it's economic. -- Qazmlpok 12:33, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Possibly. But I don't think any other stones are rejected as not being hard - including stones like chalk, gypsum and talk. Ptb ptb 12:41, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's because they actually are considered to be "hard" in-game - the material template STONE_TEMPLATE includes [ITEMS_HARD], and that template is used by pretty much every type of stone. Water does not set this flag, therefore it can't be used this way. --Quietust 15:06, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Reclaiming icy embark locations[edit]
When reclaiming a 'freezing' location any construction / digging that took place in the ocean is filled with solid, salty ice. I'm not sure what happens with fresh water glacier layers. Ptb ptb 12:41, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Buckets in glaciers[edit]
The page states "Water in buckets will last for a surprisingly long time before freezing in the bucket as a chunk of ice." however, my experience on a glacier showed that a walk through a single unheated tile broke my water supply to hospital. I.e., on glaciers water exists only in "heated" tiles above magma (DFhack probe shows temperature of 10015-10075 for that tile); and any tiles not near magma are temperature 9990 and cause instant freezing of any water - flowing, buckets, wells. – unsigned comment by 46.109.168.235
