If you want your dwarves to gain skill as cooks you should only prepare easy meals, since this gives them the most practice per ingredient used.
Is this still true? I find I level far faster with lavish meals. --Shades 14:41, 20 November 2007 (EST)
- Exp is the same for each task at the kitchen. VengefulDonut 10:02, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
It says that cooked meals are "not subject to wear", but also that meals left in the kitchen "may rot". Which is correct? -- ToxicFrog
- wear and rot are different things. wear is the x and X's next to it, where its still edible. rot happens instantly, spews miasma everywhere, and the meal is instantly inedible. -Chariot 04:22, 15 March 2008 (EDT)
- Although i doubt that prep meals can either wear or rot, unless outside or in water. Maybe they rot in the kitchen but not on a stockpile? --Koltom 09:46, 15 March 2008 (EDT)
- Correct. Meals left in a kitchen will rot. Meals dropped on ground magically marked as "Food stockpile" will be preserved for eternity.--Shadow archmagi 10:02, 15 March 2008 (EDT)
- Although i doubt that prep meals can either wear or rot, unless outside or in water. Maybe they rot in the kitchen but not on a stockpile? --Koltom 09:46, 15 March 2008 (EDT)
Shells[edit]
Does cooking turtles etc. destroy the shell in the same way cooking plants destroys seeds? --Juckto 19:11, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
- Yes. If you want to make sure you have shells, turn off the "Cook" permission for turtle in the Kitchen menu. --Sublight 04:56, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
Meal preparation time[edit]
How much time do meals of various quality levels take to prepare? Gairabad 12:45, 14 November 2008 (EST)
- I suspect roasts don't take any longer than biscuits, though it takes twice as long to gather four ingredients vs. two. Cooking skill speeds up the process and workshop clutter slows it down, as usual.--Maximus 03:38, 12 November 2008 (EST)
