I'll  have to check that out, because you might be able to double-dye an object giving it a much higher selling rate.  --CrazyMcfobo 18:37, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

I only designate dyed thread to be used. Not only is the thread used for things other than cloth (but regardless of its purpose, its value would have increased) but upon being made clothes can then be grabbed and used by dwarves before they have a chance to be dyed; so, dyeing the thread ensures this won't happen. --Bronzebeard 04:25, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I believe there should be a way to choose the type of dye you want to use. Or is there some way to do that already? For instance, I want to make blue cloaks as per my guards' uniform template, but when I dye the thread I cannot designate the workshops to only use dimple dye; conversely, I cannot specify the clothier's shops to only use blue dyed thread when making cloaks. The only way I see around this is to forbid the respective dyes you don't want to use and/or the wrong-colored thread when making the end product, but there really should be a better way to do this. --Bronzebeard 04:25, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Cloth versus thread?[edit]

Is there a difference whether you dye the thread before you make the cloth, or dye the cloth after? If not, are there any tangible benefits to either approach? — Wisq (talk) 00:40, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Specific Colors[edit]

I believe there should be a way to choose the type of dye you want to use. Or is there some way to do that already? For instance, I want to make blue cloaks as per my guards' uniform template, but when I dye the thread I cannot designate the workshops to only use dimple dye; conversely, I cannot specify the clothier's shops to only use blue dyed thread when making cloaks. The only way I see around this is to forbid the respective dyes you don't want to use and/or the wrong-colored thread when making the end product, but there really should be a better way to do this. --Bronzebeard 04:25, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
