:I've uncovered a barren, mushroom-less, cavern that seems to have no water (which is, AFAIK, very uncommon). I've not seen towercaps springing up elsewhere in the fort, so it may not be quite as simple. I was playing in on .12 and my sand layers were producing trees and shrubs without needing muddied water. ----

:It's been observed in several places (none of which seem to be articles on this wiki, oddly enough) that underground trees will grow in subterranean mud (whether on soil, rough stone, or smooth stone, though reportedly '''not''' constructed stone floors), dry subterranean soil which has an unmined soil wall beneath it within a 2-tile radius (just like with willow trees and rivers/murky pools), or dry subterranean soil which has mud on any tile within a 2-tile radius on the ''same'' Z-level. If the cavern has no water, it shouldnt have any mud, so things will not grow. You need to hit a muddy cavern (which is most of them) -Remuthra

Prerequisites[edit]

Looks like it. Muddied an area of a bit over 2000 tiles, and after 2 seasons none have grown. Edit: 1 year on, no tower caps. Definately need to uncover something.
