This article is about an older version of DF.

Ropes are created at the clothier's shop with one cloth, using the clothier skill and are stored in finished goods stockpiles. They are used in the construction of traction benches, wells, restraints (b + v), and minecart rollers. Ropes are listed under the 'chains' heading in the z-stocks menu.

It is sometimes recommended to take a rope with you at embark, so the construction of a well can be undertaken quickly.
