Though moss is in-game, its cause is currently unknown. Moss potentially appears after a long amount of time, such as after reclaims.
Current known objects subject to moss are:
- Stone block constructions exposed to sunlight.
Current known cases of moss occurred in the following biomes:
Moss turns the tile it is on green. It is unknown whether dwarves will clean up moss, or whether traffic will destroy it like grass.
Many dwarf scientist have speculated that the so called "moss" is actually beards that fall off the dwarves once they get older and lose their hair. The many dwarven parasites that live in the beard, feasting off the dwarfs spilt food and drinks, eventually die of starvation and rot, turning the beard green.
