An Earring is a craftable item. It serves no purpose except as an export good until after the dwarven economy, when it will become a wanted trinket among some dwarves.
Earrings can be made from materials accessible by any craftsdwarf, which includes stone, metal, wood, shell and bone. On occasion, a dwarf in a strange mood will make an earring out of materials not normally suited for earrings, such as cloth.
In adventure mode, earrings that you find can be worn, but are still better used as deadly projectiles.
