Tower Caps
Tower caps now only spawn in mud on maps with underground rivers now, confirm/edit? Anonymousphrase 23:17, 3 November 2007 (EDT)
- Or underground pools, confirmed. And if you used Reveal, you won't get them.--Albedo 03:35, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
SOLID DENSITY
Does anyone know what [SOLID_DENSITY:560] in the matgloss_wood.txt means? Harder woods seem to have a higher values. Does anyone know if this affects item quality? --RaSchumann 10:58, 10 December 2007 (EST)
- I am almost certain this is the weight, relative to the standard value. Most of the items don't have this value defined. A standard ballista part is 200, A willow one weighs much less, a featherwood one nothing at all. Higher value is higher weight. --Gotthard 11:10, 10 December 2007 (EST)
Trees as Foods/Plants
as a newbie i was wondering if any trees are useful for food or plant gathering etc.? i guess not; maybe that should be pointed out - i was unsure of cutting down maple or chestnut.. --Koltom 00:38, 8 February 2008 (EST)
- At this point, you can bravely deforest whole map for wood, it can not be used for anything else--Dorten 03:54, 8 February 2008 (EST)
- to clarify Dorten's statement, when certain plants grow in certain areas, they require different biomes (a good example being that dark plant in the haunted ones). The biome is determined as it was before forestry began, so eg forest/swamp plants will still grow if you chop down all the trees :P
--Frostedfire 08:31, 8 February 2008 (EST)
- thanks :) (i also now figured that its save since when designating a plant gather area trees are not marked) --Koltom 17:26, 8 February 2008 (EST)
Rotten wood
Does wood rot?--Mrdudeguy 20:16, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- No. Extreme heat can cause it to deteriorate over time (1 tile removed from magma).--Albedo 20:24, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Wood-exclusive things?
Might be helpful to list on this page, everything which can only be made from wood. Beds, both types of siege engine parts, axles, and there are probably others I can't think of right now. Or the Wood Industry article would be a good place, too. -Arrkhal 04:18, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Do I really need wood?
00:43, 3 December 2007 User:Karlito
Wood is necessary to build beds and axles. Without beds your dwarves will get unhappy thoughts from sleeping on the ground, and without axles you are severely limited in power transferring. Also you need at least one piece of wood to produce coke that you need for metal production. It is a common enough challenge to play on a treeless biome, though most players choose to import wood, and bring some with them in the starting screen.
