40d Talk:Gem cutter
Revision as of 23:06, 28 January 2010 by Overspeculated (talk | contribs)
Whats the difference between a large gem and a cut gem? If they're different, how do you get one over the other, and is one more valuable or useful?
A cut gem is used in gem setting. A large gem is a trade good with no other uses. Bouchart 22:11, 4 March 2008 (EST)
It happens randomly when a gem cutter gets a little creative. MikeWulf
Does the skill of the gem cutter have any effect on the frequency of additional large gems? Drawf irons 10:20, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
- when a jeweler makes an artifact large gem it has the reverse effect, but since all other large gems get a quality modifier-its vastly important to get high skill.
- I did a test, I cut 30 glass gems with "no skill" dwarves and 30 glass gems with a legendary dwarf. The no skill dwarves made 9 large gems (21 cut gems), the legendary dwarf made 8 large gems (22 cut gems). As such I draw the conclusion that the skill of the gem cutter does not affect the frequency of large gem creation, rather that this is based on a set chance (looking at 1/3rd). I will edit this page and any other pages that claim having a low skill gem cutter is better. --Overspeculated 23:06, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
