Revision as of 21:49, 8 March 2010 by QuietBot (talk | contribs) (moved Talk:Broken/40d\x3aMason\x27s workshop to 40d Talk:Mason's workshop: Fixing talk page name (419/738))
Specific Stones
Is there a way to specify which stone to use for the building of an item. Say I want a mudstone door not a basalt door? Ehertlein 12:37, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
- Not at the current time. It seems like the dwarves use the closest stone.--mabmoro 12:54, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks, I'll just deal with non-matching doors for now :) Ehertlein 12:55, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
- You can also either forbid or dump the stone that you dont want them to use via the Stock menu. Make sure your bookkeeper has put accuracy high, though, since the average fortress will have a LOT of stone.--mabmoro 13:08, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
- Forbidding the stone will mean my dwarves wont use it for anything though correct? So if I didn't want the obsidian used for doors and beds but I did want it for crafts, that wouldn't work? --Ehertlein 09:43, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
- Correct, from my experience. --mabmoro 09:41, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
- There's no need, obsidian is an Economic stone, so unless you specify otherwise, dwarves will never grab it randomly for furniture and the like. See the link for more info. --Smartmo 22:28, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- Note that a dwarf will pick up and use the closest stone to where they were when they were assigned the task, which is not necessarily the closest stone to the workshop (if they were previously in a meeting area, for example). --Raumkraut 00:37, 5 August 2008 (EDT)
- Nevertheless, a customized stockpile next to the workshop, containing only the kind of stone from which you desire things to be made, will usually do the trick -just queue up one more task than you need, to deal with the mason grabbing alunite from the common area instead of obsidian from his stockpile. --Zombiejustice 12:57, 21 August 2008 (EDT)
