v0.31:Soap
This article is about an older version of DF. |
Soap is used by dwarves for both personal cleaning and health care. Soap is made by combining lye and tallow in a Template:L. This command must be entered through the Manager screen, as well as the command to render fat. One unit of fat (1*) plus one unit of lye (2*) creates a single bar of soap (1*). Thus, soap is no longer a valuable trade commodity as of 31.01.
Dwarves do not require soap to clean contaminants such as mud and blood from themselves. Plain water will do just fine. It is possible to construct bath-houses (rooms containing pools of water, a soap stockpile, and perhaps a few nice statues) so dwarves living deep underground need not venture to dangerous cave pools or surface brooks to clean off a little mud or bloodstain.
Soap is an important element of hospitals for wound cleaning and preventing infection after surgery. For this reason, hospital activity zones should include a small stockpile of soap.
