When Magma Decides it Doesn't Like You
When you your dwarves are stupid enough to break into a magma chamber from below then all sorts of fun is just around the corner.
Magma Mechanic
When the fort mechanic heard the screaming and saw the glow from the main hallway he knew the fortress leader's idea about tapping the magma pipe was to blame.
He watched in mild horror as the one remaining miner ran out of the side passage on fire. The mason and farmer decided to make a break for it... they were soon consumed by the hungry fluid.
Perhaps fleeing through the currenty empty aquaduct would work... if the magma hadn't gotten there first. So he decided to learn how to make walls fast and seal the magma away from him.
Of course that didn't exactly improve his situation much... the only miners and the only picks were currently bubbling away happily in the magma just beyond the door.
But his fellows would never abandon him and they melted down a battle axe, reforged a pick and started to dig down towards the standed mechanic.
Rescue!
Fort Recovery?
First things first, sealing off the breach in the magma pipe with water from the river. Creating the parts for the pump wasn't too hard... the three remaining dwarves needed to be a bit varied in their skills but it worked!
Now to drain the magma from the lower halls and rooms. This calls for a great chamber and then careful tapping of the flooded area.
It took a while but the magma started draining away!
Success!
The Future
That huge chamber quickly filled up... and the supports quickly disolved... but it didn't collapse? Oh well, lets build on top and live in blissful ignorance of the horror that awaits us in some distant (or not so distant future).
