v0.31 Talk:Fisherdwarf
Zones?
I don't believe a fishing zone must be created. I see dorfs fish outside of zones all the time. I've even seen them ignore a zone and go someplace else when there were no fish left there. If the zone becomes unusable, due to freezing, for instance, they will always go to any available unfrozen water instead. Okay, I just confirmed it, there is Standing Orders option to toggle between 'prefer zone fishing' and 'zone only fishing.' I'm changing the page.
Question: how long are dwarf fishing lines? If I dug a pit down to a water filled cavern, could they fish from far above, or must they be only one z-level above the water?GhostDwemer 21:43, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- One z-level IIRC. But I haven't (and really can't) do any testing, so don't take my word. --Dree12 23:40, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Just how do dwarfs fish anyway? they do not require graphite or wood for fishing poles, nor do they use thread as line, and fishing doesn't require spears or spear use, even though it would make sense for it to do so.. I think what they do, and this explains why some dwarfs find themselves as snacks instead of snackers is that they noodle for them or hand catch them. They stand on the edge of the stream, stick their arms in some aquatic creature's hole in the mud and wiggle their fingers until something chomps them, whereupon said dwarf flails the thing onto the shore where it lets go in favor of trying to breathe. While this works well with catfish, and is quite amusing with eels, trying to noodle a gar would tend to lead to nasty results indeed.~Lyredragon
