DF2014 Talk:Chert
Difference between Chert and Flint?[edit]
Hi everyone. We're from Chinese DF wiki and we're recently translating the mineral articles. We find it difficult to deal with the word "chert", as "chert" and "flint" fall into the same translation in Chinese (燧石). However, in previous version (up to 40d), DF has both chert and flint as sedimentary layer rock, which may be very tricky for translation. I've read some articles about the difference between them, which are slightly different in terms of subject background or appearance, but they seem to be almost the same kind of stones? So as for native speaker, how do you distinguish these two terms, and do you know why they both appear (instead of only one, like now) in previous DF version? xjtu-blacksmith 黑山雁 (talk) 01:49, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've just find it says that flint is a special type of chert. As there is no "flint" in current DF version, maybe it is OK to use the same translation for chert. xjtu-blacksmith 黑山雁 (talk) 01:52, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
