40d Talk:Pike
Revision as of 16:02, 10 January 2008 by Eagle of Fire (talk | contribs) (Disambiguation, dishambigueation...)
I didn't try the adventure mode yet for the new version(s), but a pike should also be some kind of big spear usually wielded or sold by humans vDF 0.23.130.23a. --Eagle of Fire 01:15, 18 November 2007 (EST)
- This is correct; I just got poked with one by a goblin (which is odd, as I didn't think goblins were larger than dwarves, and pikes are too large for dwarves to wield..right?). Perhaps there should be some sort of disambiguation page between the fish and the weapon. My wiki-fu is weak; I don't know how to make one of those myself. --Hesitris 09:58, 18 November 2007 (EST)
- I used one with a dwarf avatar in adventure mode in 23a. A lot of people told me you can't wield one, but this is not true. Maybe you simply need to be strong enough? --Eagle of Fire 23:20, 20 November 2007 (EST)
- If I understand the format correctly... Step one is to create a Pike (disambiguation) page, redirect that to PIKE (all caps) and on that page list the various uses and have links from there. However, some of the disambiguations on WikiPedia are done only with a {disambiguation} area at the top of the page, but that seems inefficient as you would have to alter all of those as you add more and more. Example of the first: ape. Example of the second: prince. If you do some rooting around, you'll see that most of the prince alternatives are not done in this fashion, and this is probably an old or incorrect method. I can go ahead and make the Pike disambig setup per the first if anyone likes.
- I think the best way to do this would be to create a redirect at the Pike page and then link to each individual disambiguation. This way, someone searching for Pike in the search pannel to the left would end up with the right page giving him the choice, and it would not break any page already written. Anybody noticing the change could also direct link the old links as we find them.
- Also, since the time I wrote my last post, I learned that dwarves can wield any kind of weapon in adventure mode but are restricted to the standard dwarf weapons in fortress mode. When you wield an exotic weapon in adventure mode, you learn the skill of that particular weapon as you fight. --Eagle of Fire 11:02, 10 January 2008 (EST)
