Teres Draconis has been happy lately. She talked with a lover lately. She ate a fantastic meal lately. She admired a fine window recently. She has been comforted by a wonderful creature in a cage recently. She was comforted by a pet recently. She has been satisfied at work recently.

She is romanticly involved with <message redacted>. She is a casual worshiper of Mari the Chalice of Life.

She is a citizen of the United States. She is a member of <message redacted>.

Teres Draconis likes sandy loam, lapis lazuli, silver, the color green, elk leather, dogs for their loyalty and dragons for their terrible majesty. When possible, she prefers to consume cow's milk, cow cheese, wild strawberries and tuberbeer. She absolutely detests roaches.

She is relaxed. She finds helping others rewarding. She is quick to anger. She is often nervous. She greatly appreciates art and natural beauty. She is willing to compromise with others. She often feels discouraged. She has a sense of duty. She tends to avoid crowds. She is bored by reality and has a wonderful imagination. She feels strong urges and seeks short-term rewards. She loves new and fresh ideas. She is disorganized. She is concerned about rejection and ridicule. She is occasionally given to procrastination. She is very friendly. She is slow to trust others. She does not feel effective in life. She often does the first thing that comes to mind.

Why did nobody tell me...

I can't have been the first to come up with this. It's not possible. And I'm ashamed, literally ashamed, that it took me this long to figure this out.

From the embark menu

Sure, load up on 1 each of the 2 point meats. That's free barrels, and I don't begrudge that.

Take 1 each of the drinks, too, for the same reason. But you don't need more than that.

You're going to take 31 plump helmets. When you get where you're going, they can easily provide you with 100 drinks, and, on average, more than a hundred food.

See, there's this nifty little thing where when you brew a plant, you get 5 drinks from each instance of that plant. A stack of 4 plump helmets and a barrel will give you 20 dwarven wine and some seeds. And if it's a seed producing plant, you also get 1 to 5 seeds. I have found that letting dwarves eat fruit means I usually only get 1 seed, and cooking of course provides no seeds, but that brewing tends to net me 2-4 seeds each, with 3 being by far the majority. The experience levels of the brewing dwarf does not seem to play into how many seeds I get.

So, those 4 fruits you could eat for 4 meals turns into from 24 to 36 meals if you brew them then cook them with their seeds. Miracles. I have no clue how it's done.

By the way, this should be done early to prevent hungry dwarves from eating your supplies, and from thirsty dwarves drinking from carp infested waters.

And a hundred drinks and food should easily last you a full year if you don't let them rot in the kitchen.

What DF stuff I've done lately

in game

Testing the above repeatedly to confirm my numbers. Bashing my head against the wall for not seeing it sooner.

I've also, still, been working on my "crash landed on an alien planet" mod... made much easier by the fact that I don't have to name everything yet. I'll be naming plants, animals, etc, after the first dwarf to preference them, yet still have some kind of descriptor. =) Udilberries and Endok trees (which are prefered for their calming scent, even though they're only found in evil savage places. =D ).

I did leave in some of the "earth born" plants and creatures, since my pretend history is that it was a colony ship that crashed. Perhaps a small fleet of them, which would explain why there are different civs around? Mostly just the domestic creatures, and a few (5) of the farmable plants (only 2 of which are subteranian).

Wish there were a way to mod the vermin so that they were toxic to eat, since I've cured that problem in the other creatures by making most of them have no meat or fat. =/ Maybe the smaller things only have trace elements of the heavy metals and other toxic substances found on this planet? *considers* Perhaps if I made most of them venomous it could cover it... I could just pretend like the flesh has less toxin because the venom has more. *sighs* Imperfect, but, hey...

Also, wish I could "polute" the water sources. Sometimes you get a salt water aquifer. Wish you could have salt water rivers and ponds and such, too...

Currently working on modding the reaction standard, since part of my "world" is that the native plants and animals are far easier to process for metals than the ores are... in fact, I'm thinking of limiting the ores quite heavily. Maybe make them /all/ deep? Fun. - jaz 76.102.155.186 22:45, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Uhm... nothing. Can't remember (and can't be bothered looking up) my log-in info, so I'm cheating the sigs. - jaz 00:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Ever feel like a little fish in a really big pond?

And that maybe the pond is filled with something other than clear crystal water?

I am wading through some of the forums at www.bay12games.com, trying not to duplicate threads as I make suggestions (or, in at least one case, point out that there is a perfectly good way of dealing with the problem they want dealt with without them suggesting something that would mess up my problem even more, and better yet, their solution is already functional in the game). My word, there is a lot of ... stuff... to wade through. Even if I find a thread that talks about something similar to what I'm thinking, it may be a good ten pages long... and if I don't want to sound like a "me too!" who didn't even bother to read what they're "me too!"ing, then... argh... And when that's /already/ a duplicate thread. Headache. And then it turns out that none of them address the subtle vision I see... or insist on making it too complicated to actually impliment...

And I have to wonder, if it's this difficult for me, wading through it all, how badly fare the Great Toad and his tri-toed sibling? Because I'm sure I'm not looking at even a tenth of the ... stuff... that they are. (And no, I don't mean "<redacted>" because it's worthless, but rather because there's just so much of it that it intimidates me and I thus feel the need to call it dirty words. I accept my common ways.)

So, Yargh, I say. Yargh! I will take my ineffective self to dinner, and maybe tomorrow will wade through more "suggestions" in the hopes of finding a gem, a clever mind who's desires match my own (and who was smart enough to phrase it in a way that other people actually understand).
