A fanciful creature is a creature which is not generated normally as part of the game world. They appear in engravings and other works of art. Some fanciful creatures are actually encountered in the game, but they may only appear in special circumstances. Examples of these are some of the targets of quests in adventure mode, or the megabeasts which occasionally attack you in fortress mode.

Fanciful creatures in the game object data are defined by either the [FANCIFUL] or [MAGICAL] tokens.
