Suspended construction trick[edit]
Contrary to popular belief, suspended constructions do not prevent a dwarf from standing on a specific tile since early in v0.34.
Here's a simple test:
- Embark carefully with 9 stone blocks on a treeless site
- Select a location several tiles away from the embark wagon
- While paused, designate a 3x3 area of walls using the blocks
- Cancel the center wall and the adjacent wall away from the embark wagon
- Suspend the rest of the walls
- Designate a new center wall using one of the blocks
- Unpause and observe where the constructing dwarf stands
