Suspended construction trick[edit]

A dwarf building on a suspended construction in v0.40.24

Contrary to popular belief, suspended constructions do not prevent a dwarf from standing on a specific tile since early in v0.34.

Here's a simple test:

  1. Embark carefully with 9 stone blocks on a treeless site
  2. Select a location several tiles away from the embark wagon
  3. While paused, designate a 3x3 area of walls using the blocks
  4. Cancel the center wall and the adjacent wall away from the embark wagon
  5. Suspend the rest of the walls
  6. Designate a new center wall using one of the blocks
  7. Unpause and observe where the constructing dwarf stands
