Dfterm is a tool to run dwarf fortress via a terminal so multiple people can connect and join in.

See the bay 12 forum thread here: Dfterm forum thread.

Setup

To get it up and running quickly, unpack the zip file and copy the dfterm_injection_glue.dll file to your dfort directory. Run dwarfort.exe and then run dfterm.exe. Dfterm will detect your running dfort and hook up. You should be ready to go.

Client Programs

Connect to dfterm via any terminal emulator. A popular one for windows is Putty. You will have to change some settings.

Connection Info

Default Connection settings
Item Setting
Host (your hostname or IP address)
Port 8000
Protocol Telnet
Encoding UTF-8
Rows At least 25, better with 35+
Columns At least 80, better with 100+

If you want to play over the internet, you will have to set up port forwarding on your home router.

Known Problems

  • Some text is way too dark
    • In Putty go into the window > colors menu and change the values for ANSI black bold to higher numbers. 120-120-120 looks alright.
  • The numpad +/- buttons don't work
  • Shift+arrows and Shift+enter don't work.
  • There is no authentication.
    • This will be addressed in a future release.
