During the MCS survey, more than 4,000 volunteers collected tons of litter during a survey of 354 beaches. The team checked out 105 miles of coast and removed more than 346,000 items. Some 7,504 plastic bags were found during Beachwatch 2007, at an average density of 44.5 items per kilometre. This is up from 39.9 in 2006 and 28.9 in 1997. MCS litter projects coordinator Emma Snowden described the findings of its survey as "truly shocking". She said: "The plastic litter problem needs to be tackled at all levels, from grass roots through to Government, while industry and retail sectors must acknowledge the need to reduce plasticbag use and packaging.

I like the plastic bag ban because it is the genuine will of local politicians, and if the Government means anything by its enthusiasm for localism, it will give proper effect to the measure in the next London local government Bill. I hope the councils will take advantage of their success to go further, because if there is one thing worse than the plastic bags, it is the hideous white pox on the London streets. I mean the gum. Every day across this country hundreds of thousands of people are stealthily taking out a piece of soggy supermasticated gum; and instead of putting it neatly behind their ear until they can find a bin, they are checking that the coast is clear, and then they are flicking it into the street.

Other requests

  • Can someone include a discussion about how dwarfs choose which jobs/tasks to do if they have enabled multiple labors and there are jobs in multiple labors on the DF2012:Labor page? Is it based on which job is created first? Their skills / traits / attributes? Which labor they are highest ranked or their titled profession? This seems to be an issue in the LPs I've been watching early on when there are only the 7 starting dwarves, sometimes extending into the first migration. I know a solution is to deactivate other labors, or use burrows, but I'm still curious how it works. Thank you, 108.243.77.185 03:08, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
